What it feels like to live with them
Your shades open with the morning light and lower at sunset without anyone touching anything. The west-facing room stays cool in August because the shades came down before the sun hit the glass. The nursery is dark at nap time. Movie night has no glare. And when you want the view, one press and they are gone.
Because we also do the lighting and control, shades join the scenes: Morning raises them with the lights, Goodnight lowers them and locks the doors. That is the difference between motorized shades and a shading system.
Working with your designer
Fabric, finish and how the shade meets the casing are design decisions, and we treat them that way. We bring the fabric books and the hardware samples, coordinate with your interior designer, and measure every window ourselves. Inside or outside mount, pocket or fascia, light gap or blackout, we get the details right before anything is ordered.
For new construction we specify power and pockets before drywall, so wired shades go in clean and the headrails disappear into the ceiling.

How much do Lutron motorized shades cost per window in Metro Detroit?
Lutron Triathlon Select shades start around $600 per window installed. Lutron Triathlon mid-tier shades typically run $900 to $1,400 per window. Lutron Palladiom, the flagship tier, ranges from $1,500 to $3,500 or more per window depending on fabric, hardware finish, and motor type. Whole-house Palladiom projects for luxury homes in Bloomfield Hills, Birmingham, and Franklin typically range from $25,000 to $75,000 installed and integrated with Control4 or Crestron. What is the difference between Lutron Triathlon Select, Triathlon, and Palladiom?
All three use the same Lutron motor technology and integrate identically with Control4 and Crestron. The difference is hardware quality, fascia profile, and finish range. Triathlon Select is the entry-tier with clean functional hardware, starting around $600 per window, and is a strong choice for retrofit projects or budget-conscious new builds. Triathlon is the mid-tier with more refined hardware suitable for most residential projects. Palladiom is the architectural-grade flagship with the most minimal fascia profile and the finish range required for demanding interiors. Most TSV luxury new construction projects use Palladiom.
Does The Sound Vision use Lutron for lighting control in Metro Detroit homes?
No. The Sound Vision uses Lutron exclusively for motorized shading (Triathlon Select, Triathlon, and Palladiom) and for architectural LED light sources (Lutron Lumaris). Lighting control keypads, dimmers, and scene programming are handled by Control4 or Crestron. This is intentional and consistent across every TSV installation. Lutron shading integrates directly with Control4 and Crestron, so the shades are controlled from the same keypads and app as the rest of the home.
Do Lutron motorized shades need to be hardwired or can they be battery-powered?
Both options work depending on the application. Lutron offers battery-powered motors across Triathlon Select, Triathlon, and Palladiom, and they perform well in retrofit projects or spaces where running wire is impractical. Hardwired motors are more reliable for large spans and heavy fabrics, and are the right choice for new construction where rough-in can be planned. The Sound Vision recommends based on the specific application, fabric weight, and window size. Battery life for properly specified Lutron motors is typically three to five years.
How do Lutron shades integrate with Control4 or Crestron?
Lutron shading integrates directly with both Control4 and Crestron through certified driver and gateway connections. Each shade is programmed as a device within the Control4 or Crestron system. Individual shades, rooms, or the whole house can be raised, lowered, or set to a specific position from any keypad, touchscreen, or app. Scenes combine shade positions with lighting levels and other system states so one command handles everything at once.
Can motorized shades be added to an existing finished home?
Yes. Lutron battery-powered motors make retrofit installations practical in finished homes without requiring electrical work or wall modifications. The Sound Vision regularly retrofits motorized shades in existing Bloomfield Hills, Birmingham, and Grosse Pointe homes. The shades are measured to fit existing window openings, and the control system integrates with whatever automation platform is already installed. For homes without a smart home system, Lutron shades can also operate as a standalone system controlled by a Lutron keypad and app.
How long does Lutron shade installation take?
Fabric selection and system design typically take two to three weeks. Lutron lead time for fabric and hardware is four to eight weeks depending on the tier and finish. Physical installation runs one to two days for most residential projects. Programming and integration with the home’s control system adds another half day. Most Lutron shade projects in Metro Detroit go from contract signing to working system in eight to twelve weeks. Palladiom projects with custom finishes can take longer.
